vulfpeck - mr. finish line

this album is a major go-to of mine if i need a good pick-me-up. vulfpeck is incredibly gifted at making both SERIOUS funk songs and really beautiful melodic tunes that hit ya right in the centre of your heart. i’m a fan of many of their albums, but if i had to choose a fave, this would probably be it (although the choice isn’t easy).

“running away” and “grandma” are two stunning songs on the album that feature some legends - one of them being James Gadson, who was Bill Wither’s drummer!! insane!!!

“bird’s of a feather” holds a very special place in my heart - it pretty much became Janel and i’s theme song. we actually did a lil vocal cover to it a few years back that’s pretty cute (i’ve posted it here if you wanna give it a lil listen).

“baby i don’t know oh oh” also holds a very special place with me. not only is it a reaaaaal jam, but i did a super funky tap number to it that my cool pal Veronica choreographed for one of our school coffeehouses! having visceral memories attached to good music like this is a real joy.

so many other goodies in there… it does get pretty quirky sometimes, but i think there’s a real beauty in how they don’t take themselves too seriously despite being truly incredible musicians. so give ‘er a listen!
