a collection of instructional poems inspired by yoko ono’s “grapefruit”

Glass Piece 

Take a water glass  

Fill it to the brim with fresh water 

Drink it so it is left half full 

Leave it in a sunny spot 

Let it remind you of the good to come 

Bath Piece 

Take a bath by candlelight 

Watch as the tap drips 

Wait until your fingers and toes shrivel up 

Pull the drain 

Remain in the tub until all the water is gone 

Book Piece 

Find a book you’ve read 

Fold each page in half 

Find your favourite  

Rip it out 

Fold it into an airplane 

Throw it outside from a high place 

Plant Piece 

Pick a leaf off a tree 

Plant it in the dirt 

Music Piece 

Listen to a song with the volume one bar above silent 

Sun Piece 

Take a walk 

Find a beam of sunlight 

Lie in it until your face is warm
