the beatles - abbey road
this album needs to be on everyone’s list of essential listening… if you haven’t heard it yet, DO IT NOW! if you have heard it, go listen to the “Super Deluxe Edition” (linked below)… it makes you feel like you’re in the studio hanging out with the boys. good, lovely, sunny vibes.
if i had to choose a Beatles album that is my “favourite”… i guess i would tell you this would be it (but really, can anyone choose? i like each of them for very different reasons).
side A of this record is a fun one… lots of classics happening like “Come Together”, and some silly tunes like “Octopus’s Garden”. it also includes my least favourite Beatles song, “Here Comes the Sun” (sorry, it’s just annoying at this point), AND one of my all-time favourite songs, “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”. it’s a real mixed-bag.
however, the highlight of this record is definitely the B-side (starting with “You Never Give Me Your Money”)… each song flows into the next (also known as a concept album) the purpose of the music is transformed beyond just creating one hit song, and suddenly you’re involved in a greater story… when i listen to it, i can’t help but feel the world of the music surrounding me… it’s difficult to try to describe.
